Scott Kay Profile Photo

My Name is Scott Kay; I have been touring and recording with the Grammy-awarded “The Commodores" since 1989. IT was a cattle call audition in LA at a prestigious recording studio. I came into the audition prepared and charted most of their material. I studied at North Texas State University, where I learned to read and write music notation. Transcribing drum parts back in the day was standard practice. If you needed to learn a song, you listened to it, charted it out, and worked it up to a performance level. After college, I toured with a cover band called Dallas Brass and Electric for 5 years. We played anything from Tower of Power to Prince and even Commodores songs. The Commodores perform around 50 dates per year all over the globe. This Opportunity has allowed me to see the world many times over.

I studied with several drum teachers, Gregg Bissonette, Albert Evans, John Bryant, and Rick Latham. After leaving Dallas and moving to LA, I quickly got the gig with The Commodores.
From 1990 to 1995, I recorded and toured with The Pipefitters, Featuring Lou Diamond Phillips. We toured all over North America. We also performed at Farm Aid '94 and '95. “We also performed on the hit TV show “Nashville Now” a couple of times. I also toured with Edgar Winter from ’97 through 2000. I have lived in and around Los Angeles for the last 30 years, recording and performing with various local artists as well as a few film and TV recordings.
