"The drum parts of Tony Hunt are not going to blow drummers away. But in Kadem, the St. Louis-based "alt-blues" band he plays in, the 22-year-old does precisely what the tunes need: excellent time, a touch of swing, and fills in all the right places. Playing since he was four, Hunt studied music at Missouri State University after nabbing a John Phillip Sousa Award in high school and one-on-one lessons with Todd Sucherman, Teddy Campbell and Gregg Bissonette. And when your main influences are Buddy Rich and Steve Smith, it's no wonder Hunt combines sizzle and taste so intelligently. On the tune "Lightning and Fire", check the strong and fast feet that, at the same time, sport a light touch. Love the finesse-y sticking on the ride of "It Is What It Is". "I am a Fighter" has clean double bass but it's deployed sparingly. If Kadem doesn't bubble, anyone as driven as Hunt is bound to get something going."
