Vincent Sebastian

Hi! My name’s Vincent but most people call me Vinnie, sometimes Vinnie Barbarino, sometimes Vince…and sometimes even Vincenzo. I’m 21 years old and I’m from a small but famous coastal town on the east coast of Australia, though recently I’ve moved to the big smoke – all the way down south to the city of Melbourne.
I first played drums when I was eight years old, after I discovered a kit upstairs in a house one of my family friends was staying in. My mum and her friend both heard me starting to whack the skins and they thought I could hold a beat! So Mum started taking me to drum lessons, maybe because she thought it would get me away from my Playstation at least for a little while. I enjoyed the lessons and kept at it. It was around this time that I first heard Led Zeppelin. I remember being blown away by John Bonham’s drumming.
Fast forwarding a bit, I played in my school band and also in a weekly percussion group, all the while sticking to my Wednesday drum lesson. All this input and output really helped me to develop my skills. On top of that, I was being fed a continuous stream of classic rock music from my radio broadcaster Dad, which shaped my identity and led to me deciding what I wanted to do for the rest of my life…which was music.
In high school I met new friends and played drums in a bunch of different bands, ranging from rock to grunge to funk to punk and more. Some bands that I played in include a couple I started with friends, one called ‘Odyssey’ and the other ‘East Atlantic’. I also played with some girls in a punk/new wave band called ‘Filth Wizard’, which was a lot of fun. I had my first experience of recording studios in these early bands. As well as the band experiences during my high school years, older kids would get me to play drums for their chosen pieces for the end of school music exams. I did this for five years – every year of high school except my first.
The band I really cut my teeth in, though, was a sibling country/pop band called The Buckleys who I spent four years playing with. With this band I was lucky enough to have so many amazing experiences and opportunities. Some of the highlights include playing a pre-match show at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, appearing on Australian television with the bad on several occasions, playing at the Sydney Opera House, setting sail on a week-long cruise ship playing gigs every night, and going on various tours up and down the east coast of Australia. But my favourite experience of all with the Buckleys was travelling to the USA for a small tour which encompassed playing at venues such as Bardot in Hollywood, Analog at Hutton Hotel and Whisky Jam in Nashville. We also played live on radio at the SiriusXM offices in Manhattan, New York. While we were packing up to leave we ran into Conan O’Brien!
All of these experiences have made me the drummer I am today. Starting a new chapter of my life in Melbourne, I look forward to what the future may bring and I’m really glad to have been welcomed into the Soultone family. Thank you!

1) What makes Soultone cymbals different from other brands you have tried?
- The first time I had a bash on some Soultone Cymbals, I remembered they immediately felt and sounded different from other cymbals I had played in the past. There was something super crisp but also warm and rich about their tone. Granted they were bright cymbals, but they just stood out from the others. Although Soultone Cymbals is a really humble company it has such a wide variety of cymbal designs catering to many different styles of music. This is why for me Soultone are different from other brands of cymbals.

2) What do you love about Soultone Cymbals
- How are they better than other cymbals?
- Why do you think other drummers should try them?

- I think my love for Soultone Cymbals originally, subconsciously came from seeing them for the very first time in Meytal Cohen’s drum covers. I thought they looked so cool with the logo and they also sounded great of course, so this had a good impression on me. I believe Soultone Cymbals are better than other brands because they offer outstanding sounding cymbals crafted in Turkey, at very reasonable prices and with a huge variety of different designs. That is why I would highly recommend other drummers try Soultone Cymbals - they won’t look back if they do.

3) How has Soultone Cymbals helped you as a drummer? How has Soultone Cymbals Artist Relations treated you?

- Soultone Cymbals have been immensely helpful to me by offering an endorsement and with that helping me move into the next stage of my career as a drummer, albeit one who has just moved to a new and daunting city with a lot of competition! Soultone’s artist relations have also been so friendly and have welcomed me warmly into the Soultone Cymbals family. Their clear communication has helped me to navigate this endorsement opportunity and I couldn’t thank them more.
