Victor Haro-del Llano

Victor Haro-del Llano was born and raised in the San Francisco Mission District where music and culture thrived. Being a third generation musician, Victor started playing drums at the age of 3. He remembers watching his uncle Danny Haro rehearse with the Santana Blues Band in his grandparents garage where it all started. Music and the Arts became an integral part of Vic’s life. At 10 years old, Victor composed and performed a medley of music from Big Band Swing to Latin Rock to Reggae, a variety of different styles and rhythmic sounds. In Jr. High Vic played in the school’s Jazz band where they were invited to play at the Monterey Jazz Festival. In high school Vic was honored to play alongside Maynard Ferguson & Louie Bellson (originator of the double bass drum). His biggest thrill was the privilege to trade fours with Buddy Rich, one of the greatest drummers known. At the age of 13 Victor started to play professionally with an R&B/Funk group called Sapphire who opened up for WAR and Tower Of Power at festivals throughout the state. In 1985 Vic played in a band that opened up for the famous Latin Rock group, Malo. After the performance, John Watson, one of Malo’s vocalists, introduced Vic to Arcelio Garcia. Arcelio explained he was bringing Malo back to San Francisco and offered Vic the drummer’s chair. Vic started playing and touring with Malo in 1986, where his experience of a lifetime began. In 1988 Vic was on MTV with Dakota Son and shortly after played with Los Mocosos at the World Music Festival in Arlington, Virginia. Victor has also played alongside many artists including Carlos Santana, Eddie Palmieri, The Gap Band, EU, Poncho Sanchez, Pete Escovedo, Jose “Chepito” Areas band, Cobra, Neville Brothers, Elvin Bishop, Huey Lewis, Tierra, Little Joe Y La Familia, Luther Tucker, John Cipolina, Richard Bean and Sapo and the Texas Tornadoes. To this day, Vic keeps the drummers chair for Malo as well as Richard Bean and Sapo and continues to play with many local Bay Area bands. His passion for music and "the drum" has never diminished after all these years.
