Tyko Westermarck

Tyko Westermarck was born on July 1, 1992 in Helsinki, Finland. After 7 years Tyko migrated to Gran Canaria, and at the age of 11, he started playing drums and to take lessons with Ray Oriel, a drummer/percussionist from Cuba.

First it was just a hobby but when he started a band (Gozerk) with his brother Joel Westermack it became something more serious.

In 2005 the group had all its components and they played mostly rock and metal but

about one year later Tyko began to show some interest for different music genres as latin, techno, funk… witch gave him a much wider sight and understanding of playing.

The upcoming years he and his band were gigging in many places and made an European tour called Go Berzerk 2009.

Furthermore they were published in some music magazines such as Metal Hammer in which was said: ”on the drums, 16-year old Tyko proved his magnificent strength and fantastic speed. He gave a drum solo which showed us how to mark an epoch”.

During all these years he has taken some additional private lessons from Finnish drummers such as Tommi Rautiainen who has taught him many different music genres.

Currently Tyko has released an EP with Gozerk, is composing a CD and is giving private drum lessons in Gran Canaria.

Some of his influences are; Chris Adler, Mike Portnoy, Thomas Lang… among others.
