Tirso Buenfil
TIRSO BUENFIL (1975, Campeche, México) Studied in the Escuela Superior de Composición y
Arreglo Musical (E.S.C.A.M) in Mexico City, Jazz Seminars in the cities of Veracruz and Puebla méxico, taught by Berklee College of Music and Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico teachers. Endeavouring in Master Classes with Dave Weckl, Simon Phillips, Clarence Penn, Peter Erskine, Antonio Sánchez and Lionel Cordew created a new horizon, which he followed to receive one week of private lessons in Drummer's Collective NYC. Tirso’s performances in Mexico’s most important
cities along with international appearances in Cuba, Dominican Republic, USA and Canada led him
to move to Ottawa throughout 2008, where he taught at Alcorn Music Studios and performed in
Music Festivals, Concert Halls, Bars and Restaurants, exploring genres like Jazz, Rock and Latin
Music.
He has participated with musicians MIKE STERN, DAVID FIUCZYNSKI, EUGENIO
TOUSSAINT, RUMBAVANT, ETEREOJAM, PEOPLE PROJECT, TINY HEAVIES, PHILLIPE
LAFRENIERE, IZZY MARTINEZ, MARC DECHO, NICHOLAS DYSON, BRIAN ASSELIN,
MARK ALCORN, RICK RANGNO, ALEJANDRO CAMPOS, DAVID GILMORE, MARIO
“MAYITO” PATRÓN, DAVID GONZÁLEZ, ALEJANDRO MORA, EMMANUEL MORA,
XAMÁN, CARLOS RODRIGUEZ, ARMANDO MARTÍN Y HUMBERTO CASANOVA,
amongst many others.
Tirso is now part of SUR JAZZ TRIO, YAZZKIN, XAMÁN and has started recording his first
album with songs written and composed by himself. He teaches drums at Najil Pax Music School in
Campeche, México, where he also stands as the Academic Coordinator.
