Sidney Vice
German metal drummer Sidney Vice started preparing for his musical career behind the kit at the age of nine. Benefitting from an extensive educational journey through various institutions within the music scene and business, he finally found his professional purpose as rhythmical backbone of the Hamburg based Melodic Thrash outfit GODSNAKE in 2017.
Starting to learn the drums at the music school in Mülheim an der Ruhr (1996 - 2006), Germany, he had the chance to learn from Michael Gosen, a classical trained teacher who also played in various rock and rhythm’n’blues bands. Besides regular drum classes, he took part in the 4-5 piece Percussion Ensemble and public music school’s Young Symphonic Orchestra and successfully completed numerous concerts and competitions with both outfits.
In any event it paid off that Sidney expanded his musical knowledge through Saxophone lessons, which gave him the opportunity to master harmonic & music sheet reading skills. He also got involved in the percussion club in his regular school for 6 years , both playing saxophone as well as drums/percussions.
Already in his early years he was infected by rock & metal music: turning 11 he visited his first rock concert with his father, which left a huge impression on him - it was Black Sabbath’s reunion concert with Ozzy, which - at the time - he had been listening to for 1-2 years already. After experiencing even more classic rock bands due to the well sorted vinyl and CD collections of his parents and their friends (for instance Queen, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple among many others) he gradually transitioned to hard rock, buying his first own CD ever, being „Stiff Upper Lip“ by AC/DC. His favorite bands soon became those who had hard-hitters behind the kit, like Phil Rudd (AC/DC), Mickey Dee (Motörhead), Vinnie Appice (DIO/Black Sabbath), John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) or Nick Menza (Megadeth).
At the age of 15, Sidney was offered to play drums for the metal band Sacrifight. He started in 2002 and remained with the band up until 2011 when Sacrifight unfortunately split up. This experience had a big impact on the teenager and fueled his inner flames to continue on that path and play music. In the following years Sidney participated in several new side-projects, before he eventually found a firm new outfit in Krefeld-based Metal-Greek Folk crossover group Schismophilia (2014 - 2016). But moving to Hamburg made it impossible to continue with them, and so he was forced to search again and was landed the job at GODSNAKE.
Ever since he started playing in bands, he was always the guy to take on the management duties, such as booking & planning of shows, conceptual work & art design for album covers, administrating websites & social media channels, etc.)
These experiences, combined with his strong & relentless drive, creativity as well as love & passion for music have always been a leading factor for the success of the bands he contributed, and ultimately paved the way for the direction he chose with his personal business career.
He made his way into the professional music business as an apprentice at the Jazz label California Sunset Records (Hamburg), after graduating and completing his traineeship successfully in 2010 as a tradesman for audio-visual media.
After moving back to the Ruhrgebiet he began to study at Deutsche Pop school in Cologne for a degree as music producer, which included the completion of several classes in music engineering, composing and management (2010 - 2013). This gave him a solid understanding of the music business in general and how music creation works.
He then moved to Hamburg again and got a job at Soulfood Music Distribution as Int. Export Manager in 2014. Not long thereafter he replaced a colleague at the in-house metal label AFM Records as Product Manager in which he found his favored profession. He worked for AFM from 2014 - 2022, also serving as PR Manager from 2019 onwards to expand his knowledge of the business (working with bands such as Danko Jones, U.D.O., D-A-D, Avantasia, Thundermother and many more).
Due to structural changes at AFM and looking for a suitable job, Sidney found a new home at renowned Austrian metal label Napalm Records, working there as Product Manager again from the beginning of 2022 until now, taking care of bands like Jinjer, Candlemass, Exodus, Wednesday 13, DragonForce and more.
