Sam Oliver
From what my family tells me, I have been playing not just on the earth world; but also in the spirit world as well. My journey all began on March 25, 1995 in a town called New Haven, Connecticut and boy was it off to a start. From an early childhood, I would take spoons and pots and pans and began going to town on them until one day I was brought to church and immediately saw the drums and walked up to them during a service and fell in love. I would watch old Gospel tapes and listen to Gospel CD’s and that was and still is my foundation. I thank my mother and my father; New Haven Legend Sam Oliver for instilling that into me.
During my youth, I was exposed to a lot of genres of music and became very diverse. I look at Earth, Wind and Fire as my all time favorite band for what they did as far as drumming went. It was very diverse but it was fun at the same time; which is what I wanted to become.
During my school years, I had grown a love for the school band. I decided to join in 4th grade and it stayed with me during grade 5 and 6. Being in Junior High allowed me to be apart of the music department, got the chance to become a drumline member and also being on television. Boy what a year! When I got to high school, it was more maturing and showed me what I could do potentially with my playing and preparing me for the real world of music.
I’ve had the opportunity of playing with local artists and being on many projects. Currently, I am working with the very awesome and talented group Mattson Rose out of Southbury, CT that has released a lot of awesome material and I am a member of the project Love Raptor as well.
