Ricardo Montiel, venezuelan percussionist, was born on august, 24th of 1985. A few days after he was born he moved with his family to Maracaibo city, in the Zulia state, also located in Venezuela, where he had a peaceful childhood, filled with the region’s culture and music. Since Ricardo was a little boy he showed his passion for music, he was part of his school's band, where, in company of his twin brother, he became the youngest member.
At 18 years old, Montiel moved to the Capital, where he started studying Civil Engineering, years later, on the eight semester, he abandons the engineering to pursue his musical studies and career. A few months after arriving to the city Ricardo became a music teacher, preparing young students to participate on “Gaitas” Festivals; a tradition held by the citizens of Caracas on the last months of every year; schools train themselves to compete with others by preparing a show that includes live music, theatrical scenes and dancing, all led by the traditional’s christmas season musical genre “the gaita”. Montiel was hired to participate as a musician on a well renowned tv show on the number one channel on Venezuela, “Venevisión”. Meanwhile, he was preparing himself, learning from a very talented professor he admired, Vladimir Quintero, venezuelan percussionist and conga player from “Guaco”. Nowadays, Montiel is very proud to say that he has shared the stage with Quintero and many others percussionist he admired on his first steps into music.
The artist has worked at venezuelan famous bands like: Son Bugalú, Kcao, Kandela, Cheers, Wavaberry, Fondo Blanco, Eduardo Ron and Ecuajey. He also has been a part of the bands that tour with national artists like: Surá, Full Latino, Victor Muñoz, Gustavo y Rein "Los nene” and currently he is part of the band of the Latin Grammy Winner duet, Chino & Nacho.
Ricardo, additionally has been invited to record with important venezuelan artists: Surá, El Potro Alvarez, Chino y Nacho, Guaco, among others. His recordings with Guaco for the song “Vivo”, that was part of the successful album “Escultura”, were nominated for the Latin Grammy on the year 2013. Ricardo now possesses two Latin Grammys Nomination Certificates for this participation.
In the years 2013 and 2014, respectively, Montiel was chosen by the prestigious brands Soultone Cymbals and Tycoon Percussion, to be the image and sponsored by this trademarks, along with other talented musicians. Both, Tycoon and Soultone support the artist on every live show or presentation.
2015, was a very special year for Montiel; he was awarded “Percussionist with the most National Impact of the year” by the very respected organization, Mara de Oro Awards.
Nowadays, Ricardo is located in the city of Miami, FL because of his work commitments. At the present time Montiel performes with Extasy, a band managed by the well renowned booking agency Tropics Entertainment, and also, Ruta 6, a band created by talented venezuelan musicians.

Ricardo Montiel, Músico percusionista venezolano, Nació en la ciudad de caracas un 24 de agosto de 1985 junto a su hermano gemelo, y también músico percusionista. A pocos días se mudan a la ciudad de Maracaibo en el estado Zulia, donde vivio su infancia de manera plena, y crecio con las tradiciones musicales de la región, donde desde muy pequeño mostro inclinaciones hacia la música, participando en la banda de su colegio, siendo junto a su hermano los mas pequeños de dicha banda.
A la edad de 18 años por cuestiones del destino, se dirige a la ciudad de caracas donde actualmente vive, donde empieza estudios en la carrera de ingeniería civil, la cual deja paralizada en el octavo semestre, debido a estudios musicales. A pocos meses de su llegada a la ciudad, participo como profesor de festivales de gaitas intercolegiales. Luego participa como músico en un reconocido programa de la famosa televisora venezolana ¨venevision¨. Tiempo después comienza estudios musicales con Vladimir Quintero reconocido percusionista venezolano y actual conguero de la agrupación ¨Guaco¨, entre otros percusionistas con los que hoy comparte tarima en diferentes agrupaciones del país.

Ricardo ha trabajado con agrupaciones como: Son Bugalú, Kcao, kandela, Cheers, wavaberry, Fondo Blanco, Eduardo Ron y Ecuajey.
También ha tocado con artistas nacionales como: Surá, Full Latino, Victor Muñoz, Gustavo y Rein ¨los nene y actualmente pertenece a la banda del dúo ganador del Latin Grammy, Chino y Nacho.

Tambien ha tenido participación en diferentes grabaciones con artistas de gran importancia como: Surá, El Potro Alvarez, Chino y Nacho, Guaco (con quien actualmente posee dos certificados de nominación al latin grammy, por su participación en el disco escultura).

En el presente año, la prestigiosa marca de platillos, Soultone Cymbals, eligió a Ricardo Montiel como uno de los músicos que representaría la imagen de la compañía. El artista, hoy en día, cuenta con el patrocinio de Soultone en todas sus grabaciones y presentaciones en vivo.
