Ray Lally
Ray Lally is a 15-year-old drummer from West Hills, California. He has
been playing drums since the age of four. In addition, he is a composer;
plays piano and guitar (self-taught); and has had training and
performance experience on traditional percussion instruments from
the Philippines, such as the kulingtan and dabakan. Ray is a freshman at
Calabasas High School, where he is a drummer in “Jazz A” (the most
advanced level) and in the Jazz A Combo. He also supports the school’s
marching band and vocal performances as a percussionist.
Ray is endorsed by Donner Music, Soultone Cymbals, BASN Audio,
Linsoul Audio, Xvive Audio, Tribit Speakers, and Gleeride. He studies
under Jeffrey Stern, and has taken master classes from Bruce Becker in
Los Angeles; Christopher Bounds in Memphis, Tennessee; and Dave
Weckl, Simon Phillips, Mark Guiliana, and Steve Smith at Musician’s
Institute in Hollywood, California. Ray’s musical inspirations include
drummers Neal Peart, John Bonham, and Travis Barker; as well as
composers Hans Zimmer, Brian Tyler, and John Williams.
Beyond his interest in music, Ray plays on the Calabasas High School
Varsity Boys Golf Team, and is an active member of his school’s
Business Club and Asian American Culture Club.
