Phil was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. Upon graduation from high school, Phil began his musical career at Jacksonville State University, pursuing his undergraduate degree in General Music with an emphasis in percussion. After graduating Magna Cum Laude, Phil made the move to Boone, NC to pursue his Masters of Music in Percussion Performance at Appalachian State University. There, Phil became a member of the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra, ASU Wind Ensemble, ASU Percussion Ensemble, as well as the New Paradigm Percussion Quartet. Phil was also extensively involved in the Music Industry program, playing for upwards of 70 sessions at Robert F. Gilley Studios for recording students and private projects alike. In addition to his collegiate ensemble career, Phil spent two summers marching with World Class DCI group, Colts. Upon graduation from ASU, Phil relocated to Asheville to play as a freelance session drumset player. In his spare time, Phil enjoys hiking, visiting craft breweries, and performing with his band, Shabudikah.
