Owen Babbey

Owen is one of the youngest and newest members of the Soultone family. He is a 5yr old drummer with great raw talent who has a true passion and love for playing the drums. At 2 years old, Owen picked up a pair of drumsticks and has not put them down since. When asked why he loves the drums and music so much he responds, “the beats make my heart smile”. This Southern California boy has always had an ear for music and has taught himself how to play many songs. Now, with the guidance of Soultone and his current instructors, Owen is learning to develop and focus his raw talent and great skills. The sky is the limit for this young 5yr old drummer.

Owen is a true rocker. Some of his favorite groups are Led Zeppelin, Greenday, Nirvana, Weezer, AC/DC, KISS, Aerosmith and Beastie Boys. Specific artists that inspire him on the drums include John Bonham, Tre Cool, Tommy Lee, Neil Peart, and Dave Grohl. Fashion and style on the drums is important to him as well. He has a large collection of “Rock and Roll” suits he wears daily complete with accessories such as scarfs, cloaks, handkerchiefs, sunglasses, boots, vests and of course skull rings. He can be found every night in the living room acting and drumming out concerts of his favorite artists complete with smoke machines and lights before he heads to bed. He also started taking guitar and vocal lessons. Now, he can play lead singer and lead guitar, but he always ends up back on his favorite…the drums.

Rock and Roll is not his only passion though. Owen is also Puerto Rican and the influence of his mothers Latino culture can be seen when he is drumming out beats on his bongos, congas and drums to Puerto Rican artists such as Elvis Crespo and Tito Nieves. Sheila E has also become a strong Latino influence on his drumming and one of his favorite artists.

Owen’s parents are not musicians, but his passion for drums and music has given them a greater appreciation and love for music. This is true for many people who have met Owen and seen him play. It will be fun and exciting to watch Owen grow and develop as an artist drumming along on his musical journey.
