Orlando Fuentes

Orlando Fuentes was born and raised in Cuba. Born into a family of musicians, he studied piano at the Lauro Fuentes Music School, and later graduated in classical percussion at the Esteban Salas Music Conservatory. Soon after graduation he started inclining towards jazz music and in the year 2010 created and became the musical director of the jazz band “Influencia”, interpreting Jazz Standards, Latin Jazz, and compositions by the same band members. His band obtained recognition and awards, including first place at the JOJAZZ national competition in 2012 (which took place in La Havana) among other awards. He has participated in diverse Jazz Festivals in Havana including the 2012 “Jazz Plaza” festival and several editions of the “Amigos del Jazz” international festival. He has shared stage with important figures in Latin jazz and Latin music including Olga Tañón, Alejandro Falcón, David Virelles, Hilario Bell, Andy Rubal, Abel Virelles, Alfred Thompson, Yasek Manzano, Jorge Reyes, Michel Herrera, Jane Bunnet, Larry Bunnet, Cesar Lopez, Bobby Carcaces and Carlos Miyares.
He was an invited guest in the jazz festival in Belize in 2015 and 2016.
In August 2016 he relocated to Houston, TX where he has been collaborating with Latin Jazzist such as Raquel Cepeda and Ernesto Camilo Vega.
