My name is Marley Alvarez. I can say with all confidence that drumming is in my blood, since I am literally the 4th generational drummer and percussionist that my family has produced. It all began with my grandfather who passed it on to my dad, who passed it on to my older cousin and now me. I really got serious about the instrument at 8 years old. I took to it very naturally and without much effort. That opened the doors for the worship leader at my current church to offer the opportunity so I could play percussion alongside the church drummer who fortunately for me happened to be my dad. Shortly after that I entered the music conservatory of my dear home town of Manatí in my beloved island of Puerto Rico. In 2012 I moved to Kissimmee Florida and immediately joined the marching, concert, jazz band and orchestra program. There I learned to read music. A year after that I joined the worship team of the church I was a part of for 3 years playing percussion. 2 years into that in 2015 during my senior year our church was hosting a youth service to which the drummer couldn't make it at last minute so in the same matter the youth director pulled me out of my percussion rig and threw me in the drums confidently that I was going to do the job. Since then I have been playing the drums. I've been the full time drummer for multiple churches here in the central Florida area. I have played in multiple worship teams and most recently took on the role of worship team director for Thrive Church Lake Nona. I have started a project with a few very loved friends called Hybrid City Worship in which I have had the pleasure of being one of the main lyricists and the official drummer for the band. Our music will start being released on Spotify and Itunes soon. Soultone cymbals have given me a new identity as a drummer but more importantly as a worship drummer. The combinations of the bright, warm with the dark, dry and fast decaying sounds really give me all I need to play in all the conservative, gospel and Hispanic church environment making my drumming super versatile.
