Kevin McNaughton

Independent

Kevin McNaughton grew up in the small town of Titusville, FL. His father, a drummer, sparked his interest in the art of drumming and taught Kevin his first “groove” on the drum set at ten years old. He soon began playing along to albums around the house and to songs that came on the local classic rock radio station. The first song he learned to play was “Wheel in the Sky” by Journey. This led to one of Kevin’s biggest influences, the band Rush.

At age 12, Kevin began taking drum lessons which led him to perform professionally as a pit musician at the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse in Cocoa, FL. By age 16, having subbed for a few shows, Kevin gained a regular chair as principal drummer/percussionist at the theatre. In the years since, Kevin has performed in multiple hit shows: FOOTLOOSE, JEKYLL & HYDE, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, AIDA, 1776, and THE FANTASTICKS.

Kevin had the honor to perform as drummer/percussion for the new Frank Wildhorn musical, BONNIE & CLYDE, at the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, FL. before the show made its 2011 Broadway debut.

Following that opportunity, in 2011 Kevin toured the nation as drummer/percussionist for SOUTH PACIFIC. This opened the door for many more tours: the international tour of SHREK, the First National Tour of ELF: THE MUSICAL, the National Tour of MEMPHIS, Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and DIRTY DANCING!

Now based in New York City, Kevin performs on and off-Broadway and creates new musicals in developmental labs and workshops!

Kevin’s influences include Neil Peart, Alex Liefson, Geddy Lee, Dave Weckl, Wayne Shorter, Art Blakey, Max Roach, Clifford Brown, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Count Basie, Sammy Nestico, Gil Evans, Bill Evans, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, Jack DeJohnette, and Philly Joe Jones (among many others).
