Joshua Slater

Josh began playing like most other drummers and banged on pots and pans as a child. Then, around the age of 12 he found a red beat up drum set in his garage. Curious and excited he set it up to what he thought it should be like and began messing around with the pair of sticks he found. When his father came home from work, Josh found out his dad had played drums in high school. Following his father’s steps, every day Josh would go into the garage and play those drums. He learned the intro to "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister and wanted more. Josh's parents seeing potential went and bought a PDP FS 5 piece Fusion kit and made him promise to take it seriously and keep at it. Learning basic 4/4 beats, progression came quick and he began playing in his churches praise team band. He didn’t know it then but this taught him the fundamentals of staying in the pocket and dynamics. Soon he found himself moving from Alternative rock bands like Linkin Park, to heavier bands like As I Lay Dying. Fascinated and in awe of the drumming, Josh went to work and learned all of the parts to most songs. Still not satisfied he progressively got into heavier bands excelling in both finger speed and foot technique. Then at the age of 15 he formed his first “real” band named Aethere. At the age of 16, Josh had played in various plays and joined the King City Jazz Band. Along with this progression he found himself listening to a broader spectrum of music ranging from Classical to Death Metal. It was then that he began playing all sorts of music with enormous help from his Jazz band teacher Mr. Bruce Graham. Josh then met his future endorser Elliot Koenig at a friend’s wedding and was told about a company he had heard of before but not looked into much, Soultone Cymbals. He was urged to get in contact and ended up landing an endorsement a year and a half later. Still with his band Aethere, he has played with many big acts like Arsonists Get All The Girls, Antagonist, Full Blown Chaos, Son of Aurelius, The Taste of Blood, Sol Asunder, The Warriors, For The Fallen Dreams, Monsters, American Me, For Today, Hoods, Moria, Blind Witness, Sovereign Strength, Reign Supreme, The Wrath, Upon A Burning Body, I The Breather, Oceano, and The Great Commission. Also creating a following of their own, Josh plans on embarking on his first tour in the summer of 2011 with Aethere. He has also started instructing drum lessons and doing studio work for all genres. With no signs of stopping, he plans on continuing to drum and have a great time doing it!

Josh also endorses Koenig Custom Drums and Shed drumsticks.
