John Frazier

John Frazier

John Frazier, is a Lakota from Rapid City South Dakota. He is a proud member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. John has been playing drums since the age of 6. His father played in a country band in the late 70’s to the mid 80’s. John would often fill in on drums if the band’s drummer couldn’t make it. Not being able to reach the kick drum, he kept time on the hi hats and snare drum. He continued to play into his teens, and into his late 20’s, before taking a break for a few years. He also picked up congas when he was 20, and has been playing congas with various bands throughout the midwest. In February 2001, John won a Grammy award for work he completed for a live recording called Gathering of Nations Vol 1. That same album also garnered a Native American Music Award later that year. For the Grammy accomplishment, the tribal chairman from his reservation honored him with his own day “John Frazier Day” on April 11th 2001. John is an advisory board member for the Native American Music Awards, held annually in Niagara Falls New York. He loves playing drums and congas, as they are an extension of who he is. SoulTone cymbals for John give him what he needs while on stage. The cymbals are just the right feel when striking the edge or the bell. They give him highs and lows when he needs them. They allow him to play various genres of music as well. They have a great feel and sound. His cymbals have great balance, and tonality. John is honored to be part of the SoulTone family. He loves playing drums and congas, as they are an extension of who he is.
