Joao was born in Lisbon (PORTUGAL) on July 19, 1986 and began his musical education quite young, in 1991.

His approach to teaching is based on building a strong and solid foundation so you can achieve your drumming goals. From day one Joao will help you with your technique, theory, reading and stylistic freedom.

That being said, Joao believes that the atmosphere should be “stress-free” and always keeps a positive vibe in his lessons. Encouragement and constructive feedback while you have fun playing this wonderful instrument is the way to your drumming success!

As a performer Joao did hundreds of shows but soon he understood that teaching was his life and passion. Still, Joao performed and recorded with many bands and artists, exploring different genres of music such as jazz, funk, pop, classical, metal and so on.

In 2012 Joao moved to Dubai and there he taught more than 50 students and did several shows at the biggest venue in the world – The Dubai Mall and at the Dubai Marina Mall – either in trio and solo performances.

In 2013 Joao starts to write his first drum book “Modern Concepts of Drumming – a mental and physical approach for the modern drummer” yet to be published.

When Joao moved to England in 2014 he decided to create a specialized school for drummers and percussionists and that's when the Leeds Drum Academy was founded - in Leeds, UK.

The digital world is another platform where Joao teaches – Skype students from all corners of the world such as Portugal, UK, Dubai, USA, Australia, India, Germany and many other countries.

Joao is also a clinician and have done dozens of workshops, masterclasses and drum camps for drummers and musicians in general in music schools, high schools and colleges.

Joao is extremely proud to say that he studied with Hugo Danin (Portugal) and Michael Lauren (New York, USA).

Currently Joao runs the Leeds Drum Academy and is touring with the band Fighting Caravans.
