Eduardo Barroetabeña was born in Las Tunas, Cuba and grew up in a rich musical environment of Cuban rhythms and flavors. He began his studies at the “El Cucalambé” Music Conservatory in Las Tunas at the young age of 10, before continuing his studies at Conservatory Professional of Music “José Maria Ochoa in Holguin”,
Since his graduation in 2006 he has become a high profile and sought after drummer in Havana’s highly competitive music scene. He has been teaching at various schools and has participated in many master classes, workshops and jazz festivals.
In 2007 he formed part of the Percussion Seminary for the Artistic Education in Cuba.
He was winner in consecutive years in 2009 and 2010 as composer at the Jojazz Contest, a competition that brings together young talents in Cuba.

EXPERIENCE

Eduardo´s professional career began at the young age of 15 when he was called upon to join the “Cuban Tó” Percussion Quartet, and since then has been part of many Bands and Ensembles and shared the stage with Symphony Orchestra of Holguin, Caisimu, Pablo Menendez and his Band “Mezcla”(Havana Group which offers a mix of Cuban music styles: jazz, son, rumba, afro Cuban, blues, reggae and soul), Yasek Manzano Jazz Quintet (Considered the best Trumpet Player of his generation in Cuba), Rember Dhuarte, Afro Cuban All Stars, Chucho Valdes, Wynton Marsalis, David Sanchez, Stefon Harris, Christian Scott, Jose Luis Quintana(Changuito), Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Emilio Morales, Amadito Valdez, Enrique Pla, Juan Carlos Castro(El Peje), Yaroldi Abreu, Rolando Salgado, Pancho Terry, Mayito Rivera(Los Van Van), Beatriz Marquez, Osdalgia, Maria Caridad Valdes, Oscar Valdes (ex Irakere), Cesar Lopez(ex Irakere), Michel Herrera, Beatriz Marquez, Waldo Mendoza, Laurent Couson, Enrique Lazaga, Gary Lucas, Kash Killion, Jane Bunnette, Ernesto Vega, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Alex Acuña, Melvis Santa, and many others….
Beyonce and Jay Z in April 2013 visited Cuba, Eduardo and his group of Jazz "Oddara" played for them in the most important Cuban Jazz Club, "La Zorra y el Cuervo.
In November 2013 he moved to Beijing, where he has played with musicians such as Luoning, Hanlei, Zhan Xiaoli, Moreno Donadel, the Beijing International Chamber Orchestra, The Wisemann Brass Band, The Jackson Twins and participated in several drums master classes in different cities such as Xuzhou, Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Beijing, Shenzhen, Taiyuan, Suzhou, Peixian, Dongguan, Shanghai, etc..
In April 2015 he won the Drums Solo Contest of the Victoria Drum Festival 2015 of Canada.

At present he works as professor in the “Midi School of Music” of Beijing, Dulwich College Beijing, and Beijing City International School.
