Corey Baskin
Corey Baskin has been, playing since the age of three. He grew up in Chicago’s great age of the gospel music under the discerning ear of the late great Grammy award winning Reverend Milton R. Brunson and the Thompson Community Singers. He acquired an ear for the perfected sound of gospel music of the 1980s and early 1990s. Learning under the tutelage of Kevin Brunson since a very early age. Kevin taught him discipline and passion for diligent musicianship. He played for The Christ Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church Combined Choir under the direction of Tyrone Block; where Reverend Brunson was the Founder and Pastor. Then continued to play for Tyrone Block‘s very own Love, Salvation & Devotion (widely known as LSD), as well as Alderman Dorothy Tillman‘s annual —"Back to the Roots Festival" 1998-2000. He traveled with Mark Hubbard & the United Voices for Christ and got a taste of what a professional musician career look like and lead to (2001). Currently, he plays at the House of Blues Chicago on a monthly basis for Tim Brown and the True Praise Choral at the Sunday Gospel Brunch. And also lending his skills to the Northern Illinois Jurisdictional State Choir and the Robert L. Dorris District Choir. All while playing for various churches on a weekly and on going basis throughout the years: Cathedral of Love Christian Church, Progressive Life Giving Word Cathedral, Freedom Baptist Church, Fountain of Life Family Worship Center (Madison, WI), under Reverend and Author Alex Gee just to name a few. By various mentors and friends he has always been told to keep an open mind and love for all musical genres. That is where true musicians are made through an appreciation for all good music. Gospel is where most sounds have found their roots, and with his strong foundation in Gospel music and growing up in Chicago where gospel music has been a way of life here since Thomas Dorsey brought Gospel music to the masses. He has learned how to pick up sounds instantly, learn songs with little to no turn around time. He has also become one of the hardest working drummers amongst his local peers. He feels he has been blessed with an amazing gift, and it is something he does not take lightly. “I truly thank God for the many blessings and opportunities he's afforded me, but I am ready to take my career to the next level. If given the opportunity I will continue to grow, learn, teach, and create great music. Being a great musician and playing to give God praise is what drives and motivates me."
