Cody Orange

Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Cody Orange is currently holding down co-lead vocals and percussion with the Grammy Award-winning R&B and Funk legends of Motown, The Commodores. Having stepped into the lead role previously held by his father, Walter “Clyde” Orange (the original drummer for the Commodores who can be heard playing on songs like “Easy”, “Fancy Dancer”, “Flying High”, co-writing and delivering vocals on the 1985 hit “Nightshift”, and both singing and playing drums on the funk anthem “Brick House”), Cody is helping to continue the legacy of the Commodores along with original, founding member William “WAK” King, Brent Carter on vocals and Cody’s twin brother, Colin Orange, covering lead/rhythm guitar and support vocals, and the Commodore’s longtime backing band, the “Mean Machine”, featuring fellow Soultone Cymbals artist, Scott Kay, on drums.

In addition to touring with the Commodores, who continue to play audiences both large and small across the globe, Cody can be found behind the drum kit on Sunday mornings in his church’s music ministry when he’s in town.

“I got my start in the church at 11-12 years old, alternating with my dad, who introduced our church to having a drum kit. I would play on 2nd Sundays, formerly our youth Sundays, and he would play every other Sunday, 1st, 3rd, and 4th, until he had to be away for the Commodores. Then I became HIS sub. Long story short, the more he was away, the more opportunities I got to play on Sundays! Our joke is that I first took his ‘church gig’, then I took his ‘Commodores gig!’ In reality, I wouldn’t be playing or performing ANYWHERE if I didn’t have parents who recognized that I had something worth cultivating, and musically speaking, a dad who wasn’t shy about introducing my brother and me to music. To be able to honor his work and continue his legacy is one of MY blessings.”

Outside of the church, Cody plays in and around the South Florida area in personal, “passion” projects (mostly live and, recently, in the studio). He recognizes the opportunity to play Soultone Cymbals as being both an honor and a blessing. He will freely advise anyone interested in picking up a guitar, a horn, or a pair of drumsticks to “do it right now!”
