Cameron Phillips

Leave the Universe

Cameron Phillips has been on a musical journey since the age of two when he picked up a pair of sticks to bang out "We Will Rock You" by Queen. Since then there has been no denying that Cameron has been carving his name into the music industry as a founding member and drummer of Leave The Universe.
Apart from writing and playing drums in LTU, Cameron is also a skilled recording engineer and producer--it's no surprise that he has chosen to play Soultone Cymbals.

"These are cymbals that sound great at live shows as well as in the studio. They hit all the frequencies a great cymbal should. If I am tracking on, or producing a record, you can bet I am using Soultone." -Cameron

Although Cameron specialises in the Rock and Pop scene, he grew up studying many different genres such as Afro-Cuban, Blues, Funk, Jazz, and Hip-hop.

"People are often surprised to find out that I didn't play primarily Pop and Rock until I was in high-school. I grew up playing songs by artists like Dave Brubeck and Tito Puente."

Through high school Cameron found a love for driving, exciting styles of rock music, taking influence from bands such as 30 Seconds to Mars, All Time Low, and Angels and Airwaves. Over the years Cameron has developed a powerful and exciting style of drumming.

"I feel like because I have studied so many different styles of drumming, I have developed a very well rounded style that I can apply to my original music in the Pop/Rock world. I am a very heavy hitter but I believe everything requires finesse and direction. To me, the cymbals on my kit are like the icing on a cake. They add excitement and compliment the drums without being brash or overpowering."

Between live touring and writing in Leave the Universe and his studio work, Cameron's musical journey is far from over. ... what now? "Just say I'm always pushing the limit."
