The Musical Biography of Gregory Wilson
Gregory Tajamek Elihue Wilson was born on August 15, 1998 in Rochester, New York. His stage name is known as Gregory Wilson and he is an East Coast English Musician. As a skilled and very talented Drummer, Gregory plays various genres of music. He is very versatile and his favorite genres are gospel, funk, pop, and jazz. His gospel influence has reached all the way to the West Coast, where he played at Higher Heights Tabernacle of Praise Church of God In Christ, where the late Pastor Jack Scott presided.
Gregory’s Mother reports that during an ultrasound her physician made an observation and stated, “Look it looks like he is playing drums. Look at how he is doing his hands like he is holding drum sticks. I think you may have a drummer”. At 2 years old Gregory begun to show interest in music. He would get the pots and pans from under the kitchen sink and beat on them with his hands or a wooden spoon. Gregory had a calling and that call was playing music. As a young boy he started playing drums in church. At the age of four he played drums at the Ark of Jesus in Rochester, New York. As a young boy he also played drums with Pastor Patricia Clarks’ young grandsonsat her church on Hudson Avenue, also locatedin Rochester, New York.
Gregory’s Father (Gregory Wilson Sr.) is also a musician. His Father bought him a drum set and brought it home. At that moment Gregory’s life changed completely because his Father influenced him as a Drummer at a very young age. Gregory would accompany his Father at gigs in and out of their home church services and every step and beat Gregory was right by his Father’s side. Gregory’s Father pushed his son to always rehearse and kept it real with him. He taught Gregory to increase his knowledge base and growth of being a musician.
Excel and growth in the music industry is exactly what Gregory has done. He has played several years for the City of Rochester’s Martin Luther King Celebration. In 2017, Gregory was invited by the Group She Rise &The Aliens to serve as their drummer. The Clarissa Café Lounge was one of the hottest spots where the group entertained. They also did musical events all around Rochester from 2017 until 2019 before the pandemic.
