It all started when Jon laid eyes on his older cousin’s drum kit when he was 6 years old. In that moment, he knew he wanted to be a drummer. Playing drums since the precocious age of 9, Jon DeFiore has loved and appreciated every single minute. Banging away on the pots, pans and plates at his childhood home led his parents to purchase his first kit (a Ludwig Blue 4 piece) and Jon starting to play in the Elementary School band. By Freshman year of High School, Jon was already playing in the local community college jazz band. It was also in high school that Jon started his first band “Epitaph”, who would go on to play at well-known Chicago venues such as Metro and The Riviera. While playing in Epitaph, Jon also began teaching drum lessons, which he says have been “the most rewarding thing I’ve done in music”. When Epitaph disbanded, Jon took an extended break from the drums, producing Electronic Music, starting an Indie record label and DJ’ing Internationally. However, the muse brought him back to the drums. Sadly, a horrific car accident derailed his efforts and he was told by his Doctors that he’d never play again. Completely undeterred, Jon forged on with years of therapy and by 2021, was physically able to play drums again. He reconnected with his old friend and bandmate and they formed his current band The Rising Fall. Since 2024, The Rising Fall has been playing shows across the Midwest and Jon continued teaching drum lessons to students in his area. Jon couldn’t be more honored to be a member of the Soultone family!
