Mattias Stenbäck is a drummer with a lot of feel and has been playing drums since 2007, is mostly self-taught and has been in several bands through the years, currently being the drummer for Coldtears and previously the progressive metalcore band As They Arrive (since 2021) he has also been drumming for All of our Sons (2016-2019) and the Christian rock band Crux Gratia (2012-2015).

Mattias started his drumming journey by playing covers of metal songs and putting them up on youtube as well as playing in the church’s worship band.

Being influenced by drummers like Thomas Haake (Meshuggah), Jon Rice (ex. Job for a Cowboy), Matt Halpern (Periphery), Mario Duplantier (Gojira), Chris Adler (ex. Lamb of God) and Daniel Svensson (The Halo Effect, ex. In Flames), Mattias has always been interested in heavy music and more complex drumming. Which is why when he discovered that the band was looking for a drummer in 2020, he was determined to learn how to play at least one of As They Arrive’s songs as well as learn how to transcribe drum parts. He learnt how to transcibe while trying to transcribe one of the songs, learnt the other songs by ear and joined the band a year later.

Mattias played some shows with As They Arrive after joining in 2021, they have also competed in Emergenza festival (2023), Wacken Metal Battle (2023) and Gothenburg Metal
Championship (2024). Performing together with bands like As We Burn, Antimere, Leach and Angry by Nature. Mattias left the band in the end of 2024.

Mattias is playing Soultone cymbals, Tama drums and hardware, Evans drumheads and Trick pedals. Joining the Soultone family in 2024.
