Extreme fluidity and intensity are the best ways to
describe the drumming style of Ben Yeo, who traveled across
the world from Singapore to Los Angeles in search for his
dream. He has played the drums for about 12 years effectively,
and has since built a strong foundation in music theory.
Influences
Ben's extreme drumming
has its roots in the early 1990s when he built his unique
approach from progressive and metal bands such as Dream
Theater and Iron Maiden. Through the years, Ben took
inspiration from extreme metal bands like Origin and Hate
Eternal, and amplified his drumming towards extremities in
speed and precision. These bands continue to play an
influential role in his strokes and footwork today.
Brief History
In the mid 1990s, Ben
played in various metal bands in Singapore, such as power
metal outfit Hamyzfear
and nu-metal quartet Source of Raw
Energy. In the U.S., after the turn of the
millennium, he played in thrash metal band
Hammerstroke from State
College, Pennsylvania and death metal band
Phlebotomy from Los
Angeles, California.
Lightning Swords of
Death
Currently, he plays
drums in Lightning Swords of Death,
an extreme black metal quartet, awakened from the unholy
darkness in Los Angeles, California. Presently, the band is
working on new material for a future sophomore release.
Other Interesting
Facts
As an interesting
anecdote, Ben worked as a café/pub musician in Singapore for
several years in the late 1990s, playing Asian pop songs.
Today, he continues to compose Asian music as a side project.
