Tyler Andreula
Tyler is a seasoned drummer, percussionist, and music educator with over 30 years of
experience. He currently endorses Dark Horse Percussion drums and Soultone
Cymbals as an artist. Tyler is respected locally for his technical mastery and creative
versatility. He has performed in a wide range of musical settings, including several rock
and roll bands, jazz ensembles, orchestras alongside Broadway musicians, percussion
ensembles, award-winning drumlines, and concert bands. He has also contributed to
multiple worldwide music albums as a handpan player, bringing a unique sonic layer to
global projects.
Throughout his time playing music, Tyler has been a fixture in the local rock scene,
performing with countless bands while also competing in jazz ensembles as a drummer,
showcasing a dynamic range from the stage to more formal settings. Tyler’s formal
musical education encompassed a great deal of versatility, leading to Tyler’s confidence
performing in many types of venues, regardless of the musical genre. One of the
highlights of his career, while playing drums for Monochrome Coast, includes being
featured on the same independent rock music charts as Radiohead, solidifying his
reputation as a versatile artist. This same band sat comfortably high on the Bandcamp
local music chart with the same record for several weeks.
In the studio, Tyler has arranged, engineered, and served as a session musician on
recordings for several New Jersey acts, some of which went on to perform on major
stages like the Bamboozle Tour and other tours, and others being featured on New
England radio stations. This technical expertise and creative vision extend into
education, as Tyler always possessed a desire to give back and mold young musicians
much in the same way he was taught by the instructors who armed him with his musical
education. Tyler has taught young drummers and percussionists privately and continues
to do so. He has taught in multiple school settings, fostering the next generation of
musicians. He has served as the director of multiple local music programs, and has
taught for several years as a drumline instructor and drum tech, impacting hundreds of
young musicians. He has served as the assistant director of a middle and high school
percussion ensemble, where he was responsible for writing scores and parts that
shaped the group’s performances, as well as teaching the art and theory of drums and
percussion. He has led his students to milestones that fostered a great sense of pride,
such as opening for famous bands such as Say Anything, opening for major tours, and
performing for Ikea commercials.
During the present day, Tyler integrates drumming, percussion, and music into his role
as a therapist with students with disabilities, using drumming and percussion as
therapeutic tools to help individuals connect, heal, and express themselves through
rhythm.
Presently, aside from the above, Tyler is an independent musician, and has been
enjoying releasing drum cover videos to the masses via YouTube and Instagram. His
other project, Secrets in the Skies, a lo-fi/trip-hop project also remains a focus, where
he incorporates his knowledge of drums, percussion, and music theory to create
sonically-complex musical compositions.
With decades of experience in performance, recording, education, and therapy, Tyler
continues to innovate and inspire, leaving a profound mark on the worlds of music and
wellness.
