Syed Shible

STONEFLIES/Independent

Syed Shible has been a drummer for 25 years and based in London, UK. Syed has a band called Foshka Gero, and also been active independently.

Syed is originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has a music loving family and grew up listening to a mix of classic and modern songs. He wanted to be a guitarist and didn’t think of becoming a drummer. When he was in the high school, his best pal Rony, bought a “Bappi drum set” (local made) and that changed everything for him. He used to bang the drum relentlessly without having any knowledge on how to play drums at all. At the same time, he started to listen to wide genres of music and started to like rock and heavy music gradually.
He, then started to learn drums and was eager to play in a band. The opportunity came when he was in college and formed a band in 1996 with his college mates and that was the beginning. Although doing music was not easy as his father was not very keen for him to be a musician. But with his mother’s approval, Syed continued doing what he loves to do the most.
Syed, at that time, formed a band with his friend/classmate Taposh on guitar, another classmate on vocals and they started to roll. Syed played a few gigs here and there in Dhaka city and was becoming a dedicated musician. He wanted to play heavier stuff and in 1997, he gets a chance to become a part of a Dhaka based heavy metal band INCUBUS (not to confuse with the American Band with the same name). With that band he had the opportunity to become a part of the rise of Bangladeshi underground metal scene along with several other fantastic heavy metal bands. Soon after, Syed left Incubus as it was not going anywhere. and joined another band called Horoscope. After couple of years in this band, once his bachelor’s degree was finished, Syed moved to the UK for higher studies.
Syed arrived to the UK in 2004 and bought a drum kit off Loot in the second month of arrival, surprising his friends and flat mates. He soon formed a band and started rehearsing. He also taught drums to a few learners. He had quite a few set up throughout the time and had to focus on his family and profession. He is a qualified teacher and working in the education industry since 2010. He was still involved with music but in a small scale. It was also hard to continue music as an immigrant.
Later in 2017, Syed decided to pursue music religiously and changed his approach to drumming and did set up his own studio. He also started to teach learners and formed a band in 2019. Syed and his band played numerous shows in London Underground metal scene and participated in a prestigious contest, Metal to The Masses, where the winner goes to Bloodstock festival in the New Blood stage in 2020. They pass through the initial phase and qualify for the quarter finals. But unfortunately, they could not continue as the whole thing was postponed due to Covid 19. Syed and the bassist choose to leave the band due to difference in opinion with the other band mates.
In 2021, January, Syed formed a band ‘FoshkaGero’. Have played back-to-back shows and released couple of songs within the first 6 months and they are aiming to release an album in December. And the band did not manage to continue due to personal issues.
In September 2022, Syed joined STONEFLIES, a 3-piece band with Guitar/vocal, Bass and Drums. They are working towards an album and getting ready for gigs locally and in abroad.
Syed also run a music school, Delonix Music Lab, and he is working to spread positivity and tolerance among the society through music. He provides free lesson to school goers and believes everyone must know how to play (at least) one musical instrument.
He is also active as an independent drummer and producer. He is working towards his musical goals in solid determination.
Syed’s influences are, Monirul Islam Tipu (Warfaze), Ehsan Elahi Fanti (Feelings),Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Igor Cavelera (Sepultura), Nick Menza (Ex-Megadeth) Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Chris Adler (ex-Lamb of God, Firstborne). He is also a big admirer of Tomas Lang and Thomas Hakee (Meshuggah).

I have been playing drum for a while now, so I had the opportunity to play most of the cymbal brands up until now. Once I have played Soultone, I felt this is something I must go for. I truly liked it for the feel and the sound. The designs are also great. They are handmade and have the best material with a consistency. My cymbals sound bold and cutting, with its own character.

I love Soultone for the tone of course (pardon the pun). But truly, it has the most unique sound and feel as I mentioned already. They are of supreme quality. My cymbals are Extreme matt black series, and they look beautiful and every time, it’s a treat to play along.
If you are a drummer thinking to play a different cymbal company, cymbals that are different and a company that will help you to grow as an artist, look no further and contact Soultone. Team Soultone is responsive, caring and genuine. I am grateful to Iky and Laura for guiding me through the process and taking me on board. My sincere appreciation to Laura as she has been helping me to pick the right cymbals with the design I want. Been very patient and cooperative throughout the whole time and after.

Soultone and me has started the journey not too long ago, but Soultone has inspired me to become a better drummer by trigging my motivation. As a part of the Soutone family, I have quite a lot of positive peer pressure from my fellow Soultone drummers. ST has the right process to promote an artist to excel. I am rehearsing more than ever after I have been on their roster and have a sense of being valued by people, which feels great. It is about mutual benefit, and that’s how an endorsement works. I hope to have a long and productive run with Soultone.
So folks, Keep drumming and keep playing Soultone.
