Shane Evans was born and bred in Byron Bay, and began drumming at the age of three with
pots and pans from his mother's kitchen. One of his mother's friends saw him playing away and
commented “That boy is going to be a drummer”. This was the beginning of a lifelong passion
for music. He got his first drum kit and started lessons at the age of five, then at 9 years old he
joined the Ballina Primary School Band where he learned to read music and play with a large
orchestra band led by a conductor. At Byron Bay High School Shane joined a rock band called
Defect and immediately started touring and recording at age 12.
After high school, Shane started working as a studio drummer for various producers, such as
Steve James, Mark Opitz, and Kato Khandwala. Over the next 15 years, Shane would go on to
drum for a number of bands with different styles and record over 200 sessions. Shane was a
featured artist at the Australian Ultimate Drummers Weekend (2014, 2015) and Drumania
(2015) for DWdrums, Evans and Promark sticks. Currently, Shane drums for heavy metal band
Xcalibre, and freelance’s for numerous other Melbourne-based acts.
Shane has supported the likes of James Brown, Cake, Dave Mathews Band, Ben Harper, John
Buttler, Grinspoon, Powderfinger, Silverchair, Deftones, Blink 182, Dead letter Circus, Frenzil
Rhomb, the Smashing Pumpkins, Janes Addiction, Drowningpool, Helmet, Spiderbait,
Pennywise, Suicidal Tendencies and 311.
Shane is very proud to join the Soultone family and has named his first signature Cymbal after
his Daughter Alma.
