SAMMY MAIDA

SAMMY MAIDA

The Centerville All Stars

From Bach to Rock, Sammy Maida has played a diverse array of musical
styles with a wide variety of artists throughout the Upper Midwest for almost
four decades.
Learning drums at age 5 from sitting behind his father (also a drummer
named “Sam”) his musical prowess has earned him numerous musical
accolades and achievements over the years, as Maida plays his way
through the styles of rock and roll, country, polka, punk, jazz, big band, and
pop with many of the top bands from Northeastern Minnesota and the
Midwest.
Hailing from the western shores of “Mighty Lake Superior”, Sammy grew up
in Duluth, Minnesota to a musical family and later educated at Morgan Park
Junior High and Duluth Denfeld High School, playing in all the school
bands while winning numerous musical awards and achievements during
his tenure there. He later attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and
the University of Wisconsin Superior, respectively, playing jazz at both
institutions. A twelve year hitch in the military interrupted his regular
musical career, but did manage to play with several military bands during
his time in the service.
Currently playing with the Centerville All Stars, an “in demand” rock and roll
variety band playing throughout the Upper Midwest, Maida has previously
played with the Circuit Breakers, the Port Four, the $ellOut$, American HiP,
Wildwood, the Legendary Hellpuppies, the Shackshakers, the Wayne Renn
Band, the Mustangs, the Rubin Family Jewels, Park Avenue, the Jim Melde
Big Band, the Returnables, the Israel Malachi Orchestra, Glenn Hendricks,
Ray Ahlgren Orchestra, Harold “Red” Rudeck Orchestra, Fatt Chance, Last
Call, and the 132nd Wisconsin Army National Guard band and many other
acts.
With great versatility in his repertoire and custom Soultone Cymbals on his
kit, Sammy Maida is an established and accomplished player behind any
artist he performs with.

When asked what makes Soultone cymbals different from other brands you have tried, Sammy replied:

"I enjoy the warmth and tone of my Soultone cymbals. I am primarily using the Old K series cymbals in a variety of sizes, although my Hi Hats are the 1964 Vintage Old School series. The stick definition on my Old K series ride cymbals is responsive, without creating heavy overtones or overpowering the stick rhythm and creates a warm buttery tone. The bell cuts through and delivers the particular accents I seek, both with the tip and shoulder of the stick. The crashes have a quick duration yet can cut through the wall of sound created by the band, and it delivers the punches I need to power my band, yet they don't sustain a long ring between hits. I can't say enough about the 1964 Vintage hi hats I'm using. It is the EXACT sound I have been seeking for so long! They are incredibly responsive, yet warm enough to create the backbeat sound I have been looking for. They are vastly superior to the previous cymbal brand I was using, and I used that brand for over 30 years."

"The staff and relations department at Soultone are personable, and genuinely interested in my musical needs. If I have any questions or concerns, they have been there to answer them and meet those expectations. I can't say enough about the Artist Relations staff! They are truly wonderful!"

As a well respected drummer in the area, other drummers have often looked at his style and preferences of products. "My custom Soultone Cymbals have definitely been noticed and other drummers have inquired about their unique appearance and sound."

"Soultone Cymbals have far surpassed my expectations and deliver exactly what they advertise and I couldn't be more satisfied with being an artist in the Soultone Cymbal family of Artists!" - Sammy Maida
