My name is Sam Gardner and I play drums for my band “Kavlick” and a local drummer from Fredericksburg, VA.
I’ve been playing drums for 11 years now since I was 14, grew up around a lot of music in the family. Both of my grandads were drummers, along with my father a Songwriter/Singer and my mother a Singer.

The first drummer I remember being influenced by was Carter Beauford from the Dave Matthews Band.
I’m mostly a self taught drummer with some lessons here and there. I’m right handed in life but, I play drums leading with my left (open-handed) not knowing what I was doing when I was learning. I then discovered Carter Beauford noticing he does the same and I thought to myself, “okay I’m not crazy! Left handed drummer on a right hand kit!? It’s possible! Wow!”

So Carter and the Dave Matthews band I think was a huge influence on me in my journey playing musically.

Since I was 18 (now 24), I decided music is what I want to do for a living. I got very much into rocknroll from all eras of music and have played as many shows as I can with multiple local bands in Fredericksburg since then.

I’m a founding member of my band “Kavlick”. Very original, and very 90s rock/alternative inspired band that I’ve been with since late 2021 and, we just put out our first record “Retrieval” in November 2024 that I love so much.

Some more of my favorite drummers and influences are Taylor Hawkins, Ringo Starr, Dave Grohl, Chad Smith, Tommy Lee, and of course, John Bonham!

Every drummer I see I get influenced in some shape or form. It’s amazing to me to see how people can express themselves and show their personalities through playing the instrument that I love very much.
