Rowland Barnett

Rowland Barnett

Rowland Barnett, born and raised in West Haven, Connecticut not far from Yale University. Rowland constantly listened to his father’s music being played in the house and caras a child from his era of Doo-Wop, Motown to a massive amount of Elvis Presley and Rowland soaked every bit of it up like a sponge and loved every second of it, still does! When Rowland’s parents took him and his brother to see Elvis Presley in concert July of 1976 hearing Ronnie Tutt’s thunderous playing and sound he was hooked! He knew what he wanted to be and do from the age of 7.Rowland started banging on the drums in 1980 at the age of 11. His first drum kit was a used 1960’s red sparkled Ludwig. Took rudiment lessons in Elementary school and after that taking private lessons from the local drum store. In the meantime, listening to Elvis and KISS vinyl records on the turntable in his room over and over until every drum part was learned by ear. D.J. Fontana, Ronnie Tutt and Peter Criss was his home-schooled teachers.

Playing with as many local musicians, bandsand playing all different styles of music as possible knowing they would make him a well-rounded drummer. The best free education a musician can ever receive. During that early process, Rowland met an incredible guitarist/vocalist, Gary Maus that moved from Scranton, PA to West Haven in 1987 and just hit it off musically and they have been composing music and best of friends together for the last 35 years and not ready to stop. It is in our DNA! Been members of such bands as: Quick Mickey, Brother Diggz, The Truth, Backinthe Day, Twice Removed and Rosie’s Crush. In between our musical partnership we have gone off off to other music projects as well. Rowland played drums for a Psychobilly trio called, Blackwood with guitarist/vocalist, Kia Blackwood now a Hollywood Director and writer.

In the early 2000’s Rowland wanted to learn more drumming skills and decided to take some lessons from Columbia/CBS recording artist& skilled painter, Moe Potts (Marc Potocsky) from Branford, CT. Mark played with The Laughing Dogs, Ian Hunter, Johnny Winter and Michael Bolotin aka Michael Bolton. Moe helped Rowland tremendously learn so much more for the time they spent together. Since then, Rowland has many recording studio hours and hundreds of gigs under his belt. His all-originalRock trio, Twice Removed just completed their third album that you can hear on all digital music outlets out there. Also, TR were one of the Finalists picked from over 70,000 entries nationwide in the 2021 Jack Daniel’s Battle Of The Bar Bands and the ONLY band that represented Connecticut with their original song, “We Played”. You can catch Back in the Day (Classic Rock cover band) playing out constantly to this day and lastly, his acoustic duo, Rosie’s Crush plays out in between everything.Playing local breweries and Taverns to playing benefits for causes such as helping raise funds for the local Animal Humane Society.
