Mike Lewis, the son of a professional drummer, got his first drum set at age three, started playing in clubs by age ten, had newspaper articles written about him by age eleven, toured the states by age sixteen, and graduated from Musicians Institute’s drum program in Hollywood with honors at age twenty one.
Mike spent several years touring across the lower forty eight states, as well as Alaska, and Hawaii performing in rock, funk, dance, alternative, disco, and 80’s bands. He also spent two years touring internationally, with stops in Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Indonesia. In addition to his rigorous touring schedule, he also found time to record drums on various projects.
His style combines musical versatility, pocket groove playing, steady meter with or without a click, and a highly entertaining visual performance that makes him a crowd favorite everywhere he performs. Mike lists among his influences: John Bonham, Tommy Aldridge, Neil Peart, Ian Paice, and hundreds of others. Mike’s formal training was under the leadership of: Joe Porcaro (studio drummer), Casey Scheurell (Jean Luc Ponty), Doanne Perry (Jethro Tull), Gregg Bissonette (David Lee Roth, Ringo Starr), Ralph Humphrey (Frank Zappa), Efrain Toro (Tito Puente), and many others.
Mike endorses AXIS bass drum pedals and hi-hat stands, Aquarian drum heads, Soultone cymbals, KAT (Alternate Mode), and Randall May International internal miking system. He currently performs in the #1 GigMasters cover rock band, The Trip, from Orange County, California, as well as the Disneyland show the Mad T Party.
