Matthew Tobias has been playing drums since age 4, when his father, formerly a professional drummer, began giving him lessons. Matthew has been playing professionally for his 14 years since college. In that time, he has played hundreds of shows in over a dozen countries. Currently Matthew plays for Geoff Moore, a CCM artist from Nashville. Matthew lives in Omaha, NE where he plays with Thousand Houses and Tim Wildsmith. Matthew also owns Empty House Studio, where he produces and records artists and also drums on projects for artists from around the country.

About Soultone Cymbals, Matthew says: "I love the variety that each day brings in the studio playing for many different artists. I love that I never know exactly what to expect- but from my gear, I HAVE to know what I can get sonically. Soultone has put some great sounds in my hands that I can count on to sound great from project to project. The entire Vintage series and the Extreme crashes in particular record really beautifully! I am also excited to be working on a couple new rides that will finally get the sound in my head onto a cymbal stand. Iki's attention to the details I am concerned with, and his personal care are also huge reasons why I love Soultone- I really feel like they care about my needs as an artist- and that means as much as the fact that the cymbals sound great!" My current set up changes from project to project, but I typically do a crashable ride and 1 or 2 crashes- usually big. I like my cymbals to unfold slowly, and I find that you can get more sounds out of a larger crash if you pay attention to how you are hitting it. 15 or 16" hats (or 2 crashes paired as hats) round it out.

Matthew is also proud to play and endorse Risen Drums and Silverfox Sticks.
