Markus Merl

MessengeR

Markus was born in the year 1985 in a small town near "Saarbrücken" in Germany and startet seriously playing drums at the relatively late age of 14 years.
Just a few months after taking the first drum lessons, he startet playing with some local punk & hardcore bands, thereby gaining first live experiences during the mid-2000s.
Beside some split-ups and line-up changes and the increasing desire to change his style to a more sophisticated art of playing, he founded a short-lived heavy metal band and focused in improving his skills on the drumset.
Since he has getting more and more opportunities to play with other bands, he decided to start playing for the Power Metal band "MessengeR" in 2008. The band was searching for a new drummer at that time and their music perfectly met Markus expectations.
After playing many concerts and festival shows, and after another line-up change on bass, the recording for the second MessengeR album "See You in Hell" startet in 2011 at the Empire Studios in Bensheim, Germany. The release in September 2011 via Massacre Records turned out to be a first highlight in his career followed by a Europeen tour as support for "Blaze Bayley" (ex "Iron Maiden") which raises the famosity of the band far more across the border of Germany.
The third album "Starwolf Part I: The Messengers", also recorded at the Empire Studios, was released in September 2013 and opened the way to a support slot for "Primal Fear", touring more than three weeks across Europe in the beginning of 2014.
In Mai 2015, the "Captain's Loot" EP was released, containing some rare bonus tracks, the new song "Asylum X-T-C" and two new cover songs that have been recorded for the "A Light In The Black (A Tribute To Ronnie James Dio)" sampler. On the 4th of December, the long awaited new album "Starwolf Part II: Novastorm" will be released on Massacre Records. Some festival shows are already planned for 2016.
