Kalib Smith

His parents said as early as 1 year old he started beating on pots and pans. His father recalls, “I found 6 or 7 broken video tapes on the floor set up like a drum set. At that point I decided to get Kalib his first drum set; he was about 3 years old.” That’s when they knew he had a gift from the Almighty God, it has been non stop from that point on…

Kalib, a 15 year old drummer, now a 3 year endorser from Colorado started playing drums at the age of 2 years old. His father a local bassist started to teach him the meaning of the groove. He would always tell him,” It doesn’t matter if you have the chops if you can’t hold a pocket.” Message From Father: Kalib has big things for him in the future, he is currently getting looked at from Clark Atlanta University.. Kalib has big talent and loves to express his gift with all of his peers that hear him play. I always tell Kalib that he can be whatever he wants to be just as long as you keep god first and education 2nd....

Kalib started taking lessons to read music at the age of 8 at Rupp’s Drums in downtown Denver. He was taught there from Gary who has played the drums most of his life and Kalib was taught there for 3 years. That same year he played his first gig at a Colorado Drum Festival in Castle Rock, Colorado. Kalib, took his reading abilities to a whole different level when he went to the next level at the Colorado Drum Institute and was taught by Matt and Jimi Baucht.

When Kalib was 10 years old he had to fill in on the drums at his local church when the regular drummer did not make it to service, He has been holding it down ever since that day. In addition to that, he plays at two churches, his local church, and helps out his mentor on Thursdays. At the age of 12, he was allowed to play at the Breckenridge Jazz Festival with Latitude Experience…And is playing gigs in Colorado..

Kalib is proud to be able to endorse Soultone cymbals, and says these are the best cymbals in the world, and will be stickin’ with them for a very long time.
