Justin Van Rheenen

Justin Van Rheenen grew up in a southern Iowa town were music was his life. At the age of 10 he started playing violin; age 11 trumpet; age 11.5 he hated the trumpet and picked up the drums. He has been playing ever since. He excelled in jazz throughout middle school and high school but his favorite school activity was marching band. Only a month after graduating high school, Justin was asked to begin working under Jeff Norton and Paul Brizzi in Ankeny, IA with their drumline and Steve Smyth and Al Paulson in Oskaloosa, IA (where he graduated) with their drumline. A year later Justin was asked to begin work with Dowling Catholic High School, which began the transition to being the excellence they experience today.

During this time Justin began playing drumset for Saylorville Baptist Church in Des Moines, IA and a side project by their Music Pastor, Trent Smith. This began a career of teaching beginning drum lessons where he takes marching rudiments and applies it to all percussion.

He continues today teaching private lessons and is the head drumline instructor at Northview Middle School and Ankeny High School (http://www.ankenybands.com) in Ankeny, IA. He continues to play at Saylorville Baptist Church almost every other week where he has now taught 4 drummers to use their gifts in ministry. Beginning December 2009, Justin joined Revealed (http://www.revealedband.com), a progressive rock band located out of Des Moines. They are in the writing phase right now and hope to have their first EP released in the summer of 2010. Justin currently plays Taye Drums and Hardware, Remo Heads, Promark Sticks, and Soultone Cymbals.
