Jorge Arturo Viruete Ruíz

Grown up in a highly rock influenced family. I’ve been in a musical journey since i was little , discovering several music genres on my own and through my parents.

I started practicing drums when i was 6 years old. Heavily influenced by Rock Band and Guitar Hero (The Video games), i decided to give drumming a try.

When my first music school got to a close , a self taught period came by.

I bounced from summer school to summer school for the next few years , til a professor of mine opened his own, so i enrolled with him. From 2015 up to 2022 i kept studying drums at “Instituto Fanes” . Being taught by Aquarian Drumheads’ artists, Ness de la O, and Luis Huerta.

My time there involved a rigorous schedule and time of practice so that i could evolve in my drumming the way i did. I studied several genres from cumbia, and salsa to mambo and ballads, all the way up to rock and prog rock. Throughout this time i built up my style of drumming into an all in one powerhouse , mainly influenced by rock and metal drummers such as Dave “Compact Dynamo” Mackintosh, Gavin Harrison and Mike Portnoy.

This journey led me to competing once at Shure´s Drum Mastery 2019 contest, getting an international finalist title , and twice at the Drum-Off Global, resulting in back to back Global Finalist (representing Mexico) and National Champion (MX) in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

I’m right now working as a session drummer, at Monterrey, NL, Mexico local music scene. I’m working with an up and coming local singer-songwriter, Sol Cuevas, as her drummer as well.
