Jody Harstad

Jody Harstad, born in Seattle (1972) and raised in Tukwila, Wa. became fascinated with his Uncle Terry's drumming and began banging on mom's pots and pans at the age of 10. As luck would have it, Brett Douvia (an older neighbor friend) was selling his two-tone blue sparkle/white pearl Rogers drum kit for $200. Jody's mom snatched it up to get her pots and pans back! Brett gave Jody (now 13) his first drum lessons and he was hooked.

Jody and musician friends formed GRANIT, a Metallica, Megadeath, Iron Maiden, etc. coverband playing local parties at age 15. He was awarded a scholarship at his 1991 Foster High School graduation, which he applied to Seattle Drum School, receiving advanced drum lessons from Steve Smith of the nationally recognized band JOURNEY. After several years of rehearsals honing and perfecting his skills at various studios, including NAF Productions in West Seattle, where he mingled with members of Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and other local 90s bands, he played multiple Seattle venues and was featured in "Seattle's Rocket" magazine article "Up and Coming Seattle Drummers" as well as Seattle's "The Stranger" magazine.

Jody has played in several original -*0, cover -*C, and tribute -*T bands, such as NAKED DAISY *O, LETHAL INJECTION *O, who toured San Fransisco, LA's Whisky A Go Go, Reno and Las Vegas, MUDD BUCKET *O, who opened for Nazareth, Twisted Sister, Zebra Head, Ace Frehley of KISS, New American Shame, Blue Oyster Cult, and Dokken and who was eventually signed a deal and label in 2015. He opened for other acts such as famous Jimmy Hendrix impersonator, Randy Hansen and well established Seattle band, Gruntruck, playing for crowds of 5,000.

Other bands he played in were DRIVE *O, SEA OF BLACK *O, ELECTRIC COMPANY *C (many of which were announced/played on radio's The End 107.7, KISW 99.9 Seattle's Best Rock, and Funky Monkey 104.9, all of which played cover songs from A - Z), FOUR FRET STRETCH *O, X35 *C and tribute to Slipknot, KICKSTART *C, THE THRILL *O, and SIX GUN QUOTA *O, who released a music video on YouTube (song-Days Like These). He also played tributes to Incubus, Slipknot and Motley Crue.

The national bands which influenced Jody the most was Metallica, Motley Crue, Alice in Chains andSoundgarden. He was deeply inspired by Tommy Lee of Motley Crue, his favorite band of all time, but his favorite drummer of all time is Mathew David Cameron of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. Jody can easily play several genres, but is most comfortable and happy playing groove rock. Jody is often told that his drum style is very similar to Keith Moon of The Who and Sean Kenny of Alice in Chains. He plays Pearl D.W. drums and exclusively uses Keplinger custom snare, black iron shell with a dunnett throw off, Classic Weapon Black Iron Hoops, Soultonecymbals, D.W.hardware/pedals, Evans drum heads, and Promark drumsticks.

After 36 years in the music business and progressively developing his own hard hitting and solid unique style, Jody says “Drumming has always been and will always be my greatest passion".
