Jess Weston is a drum teacher and musician who began his musical journey at his high school, Edensor Technology College, Stoke on Trent in the UK, aged 15. Jess studied under Brian Hadley head of performing arts and Robert Winn head of music developing his growing passion for music and performance.
Upon finishing high school Jess moved to Telford in Shropshire to work for his dad's technology solutions company and soon discovered that he had no interest in working in this sector. He spent all of his time listening to music and watching Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy and Thomas Lang on YouTube. This behaviour of course got him...fired.
Moving back to his home town, Jess joined his first band “the accidental headliners” as well as attending Burslem college and gaining his first and second diploma in music; further study of theory and performance improved his knowledge of improvisation and music genres. Jess also studied under expert drum teacher Ken Adams (Ken Dodd) for several months at college focusing on theory and advanced limb independence.
After playing the local circuit for several years, proving his versatility with a mixture of rock, metal and dance bands he was spotted by a local recording studio owner who asked him to consider the position of drum teacher. Jess took up this new challenge and after 18 months of building his teaching skills and client base Jess decided to start his own drum tuition company.
Jess now runs a drum tuition company “JW Drums” in his local town of Longton, Stoke on Trent teaching regular pupils in his studio, at their homes and running workshops in schools around Staffordshire.
JW Drums also provides sound and video production facility’s to the local area and an online shop that stocks Soultone Cymbals as well as a wide range of drum sets and musical equipment.
Jess currently endorses Sonor Drums & Soultone cymbals and is currently using the Soultone Custom Brilliant Series.
“After vigorously testing the wide range of cymbals on the market I arrived at Soultone and was blown away by the tonality and depth that these cymbals provide to me and my music...” - Jess Weston
