Somerset Velvet

Hey, I'm Jamie, and I am the drummer/percussionist for Somerset Velvet, my band based in Bath, Somerset.

I started playing back in 2018 when I joined Bath College doing Music Performance, Composition and Theory. My band, Painted Crows, formed on our very first day there, and except during a brief hiatus during the Covid-19 Pandemic, we are still going strong writing original content and performing. During this time we went through a minor line-up change, and then the changing of our band name.

My band hails from Somerset, intertwined with a hint of Wiltshire. We are a five-piece Psychedelic Folk Funk band, reunited after a brief hiatus. I have been lucky enough to play such venues as Moles, St James Wine Vaults, Flanagans Apple, and The Globe in various cities such as Bath, Liverpool, Birmingham, Newcastle, Weston-Super-Mare and Radstock. We have also had various opportunities to play at events such as Cider festivals, and Classic Car festivals and have hosted/been involved with many charity events.

My most outstanding achievement outside of being a gigging musician was when I went abroad as the touring Drum Technician for The Stranglers during their French tour of November-December 2021.

Here is a little bit about my history with Soultone Cymbals.

I first explored Soultone cymbals back in August 2019 at my local music store. They had a mix of Soultone Latin, Extreme and Gospel cymbals that you could hire as a part of one of the rehearsal kits, so I tried them out as I had never seen or heard of them before. I absolutely LOVED the sound and the feel of these cymbals, so I decided to do a little bit more research about them.

As I had been a gigging musician for just a year before-hand I had used a variety of different brands and types of cymbals including the PAISTE 2002 series, the Istanbul Agop Xist series and Zildjian K Series. But for me personally, none of these cymbal series had anywhere near the sound quality and material quality/build as my set of Soultone Extreme cymbals. The uncommon dry yet bright sound of these beautifully crafted cymbals are ideal for my genre and style of playing. It was a difficult sound that I desired when I performed, but thanks to Soultone it became a reality. Even just the look of the cymbals themselves… Have you seen them? They're stunning!

Soultone Cymbals has helped me develop as an artist in multiple different ways. Most importantly; they have helped me develop my self-confidence as a drummer. Having such a great quality set of cymbals helped me to develop my dream sound, and the beauty of the cymbals really helped to bring my image as a gigging musician together. I also now follow many other drummers/percussionists that endorse Soultone Cymbals. We used Soultone Cymbals to create social groups to share each other's music, videos of recent shows, shout-outs for suggestions or requests and much more. It has brought us together as musicians, but also has developed professional and personal relationships.

If you’ve somehow ventured upon my page and are looking for something different, I would highly recommend these cymbals. There are so many different series of cymbals to try at Soultone so just have fun searching for the perfect sound for your genre and style of playing. Look to your local music store to see if they have some Soultone Cymbals to try out… you will not be disappointed…

Keep Jamming,

Jams.
