James O'Neill

James O'Neill

Jamie was born and raised in the Western Massachusetts metal scene. He began showing an interest in playing drums around the age of 3 and by 9 years old he was playing a snare drum in a Fife and Drum Corps marching band. It wasn’t long before Jamie found himself behind a drum set playing songs to his friends and family. He started formally playing in the Western MA metal scene around 1992. By 1998, Jamie joined a Puertorican metal band, Hypnotic Kick. For over 10 years, Hypnotic Kick dominated the local metal scene and traveled throughout the North East. He currently plays in two original bands; Medicated Savage (touted as the “cornerstone of New England Metal Music”- Salt of the Earth Records) and Sheepdog (touted as a mix between Helmet and Clutch).
Jamie also travels the country and sometimes internationally playing with National Tribute acts for Rage Against the Machine (Evil Empire), Slipknot (Slip-Not) and Linkin Park (Hybrid Theory).
Jamie has had the pleasure of opening for bands like; Staind, Shadows Fall, Hatebreed, Puya, Sevendust, Godsmack, Taproot, DeathRay Vision, Tree, Joey Belladonna, Sebastian Bach to name a few.
His influences are rooted in Hip hop metal, new metal, hardcore and heavy rock. Hit the drums hard like John Bonham and Brad Wilk. Play fast and technical like Joey Jordison, Tim Alexander and Danny Carey.

- ”Jamie has always been one of those drummers that make studio sessions a breeze; You know he’s going to nail it in one or two takes. He hits consistently and is a human metronome! Honestly, he is one of the most solid drummers I know in the game.”
- Chris Daniele / Yucky Studios (Producer / Engineer) @chrisdanieleaudio
- ”Jamie, from Medicated Savage, is a MONSTER drummer, both live and in the studio. His command of rhythm is the heartbeat to Medicated Savage’s powerful sound. His energy is infectious, and his meter is always dead on. Always.”
- Scott Harrington / CEO Salt Of The Earth Records / https://saltoftheearthrecords.com

“I chose SoulTone cymbals based on the amazing experiences I have had with my artist representative (Lior Mayran). He guided me through which cymbals we thought would work best for my sound and style of music (both in the studio and live). We put together a great setup of cymbals that include the warm, dark, trashy tones of the Extreme series, the durability and sustain of the Heavy Hammered series, the bright, versatile tones of the Custom Brilliant, and that fast attack and short bright sustain of the Gospel series. It is all rounded off with the trashy sounds of the FXO splashes and the bright, warm aggressive tones of the explosion crash. This set of cymbals creates a well-rounded attack and allows options for all of the music I play.” - Jamie O’Neill.
