Gene Luzala

Coming from a family with accomplished professional musicians, as a result, Gene was introduced to many different instruments and even sang in a gospel choir at a very young age. Born in Sacramento and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Gene received his first set of drums and drum lessons by the age of three. By the age of 12, he began playing professionally with local jazz artists as well as various Seattle corporate bands, eventually becoming one of the most sought after drummers for live gigs and studio sessions with prominent jazz artists in and around Seattle.

Gene has a B.A. in electronic composition and an M.A. in Ethnomusicology. He is a published author and recently completed a degree at the renowned music school the Musicians Institute in Hollywood where he had the opportunity to study with many industry professional drummers. He's had a chance to open for Sheryl Crow, Chrisette Michele, and r&b singer Kem. He's also worked with Jazz Drummer/Educator Terry Lyne Carrington (Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Esperanza Spalding), Ruth Underwood (Frank Zappa), Niki J. Crawford, The Dave Mathews Band, members of Sly and the Family Stone, Rose Royce, as well as Lou Rawls Jr. Gene currently teaches both private and college level music courses in Los Angeles and is also a session drummer and percussionist for different LA artists. He keeps a busy touring schedule and currently works as the house session drummer and percussionist with ColeMine Studio.
