Derrick Young (born Sept. 7, 1990) started playing music at the young age of ten at his home town church in Tishomingo, MS. Much of his influence was from family, especially his cousin Scotty Young who is a bass player that introduced him to various types of music from southern gospel to Stevie Wonder and Dream Theater. "You can learn as much if not more from playing with a great bass player than playing with other great drummers," says Derrick. These influences added uniqueness to his individual style. At the age of twenty-five years old, he has already played and recorded on numerous tracks and albums for various bands and artists throughout Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. The types of artists he has played for include anywhere from jazz artists to rock and country.
Derrick is currently touring with Big Machine recording artist Tucker Beathard with shows all over the U.S and Canada. When he’s not on the road, he plays at The Orchard Church in Tupelo, MS as well as Crosswind Church in Corinth, MS. Besides touring and studio work, Derrick engineers at his home studio in Nashville, TN and teaches lessons when his schedule permits.
