Darrell Harris, a Class of ’81 graduate of Locke High School, was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.
He began learning music when he was 5 years old when he started playing the piano. From there, he studied the trumpet. Eventually, he began studying drums and percussion-which is his passion. He studied at California State University Los Angeles with a major in Percussion. He also studied music at Los Angeles City College and University of Southern California. Darrell has been playing drums for over 30 years.
Some of the many styles of music he plays include: Orchestral, Classical, Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Big Band, R&B, Gospel and Contemporary Christian.
He has played on various musical projects, CDs, live performances and plays. Darrell has also played with an array of artists such as Sarah Jordan Powell, Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr., Beverly Crawford and Barbara Morrison to name a few.
You can find him most Sunday mornings playing at A.C.T.S Bible Church in Santa Monica, California. One of Darrell’s greatest joys is being blessed to own his own studio (Harris Studios) where he writes, records and works with local talent. He is also currently on staff at Throne Room Records where he writes, engineers, does drum programming and live drum tracking.
This year, Darrell will begin work on his own solo CD project.
