Curtis Tompkins

Curtis Tompkins

Curtis Tompkins is a professional musician, teacher, and author living in the Allegheny Mountains of Western Maryland. Born in a suburb of D.C., he grew up in a small valley in West Virginia and was encouraged musically from an early age. Starting with the trumpet at age 12, and the guitar at the same time, Tompkins didn’t discover the drums until age 14 and found the instrument that would be his practice and meditation for a lifetime. At 17, he began lying about his age to play in bars with his brother, Kenny Tompkins, and has continued to perform, record, and teach percussion in a variety of settings. His current band, The Christmas Lights, has released 2 records, toured with bands such as Circa Survive and Good Old War, been named Alternative Press’ Band of the Week, been featured on MTV.com, and been featured on a host of radio interviews and online appearances. Now 26, Tompkins plans to continue recording and performing, perfecting a style noted to be completely his own with thrash, funk, and jazz influences, powerful ear-busting chops laid into with finesse, and a flair for exciting visual performances.
