Charles Sams has been playing drums since the age of 4. In his early toddler years his parents noticed his natural ability to play rhythms and keep timing. They knew that God had blessed him with a talent. HIs father bought him his first drumset at the age of 4 and since then drums has been a big part of Charles' life. Growing up at Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church, Charles watched his grandmother play the drums every Sunday. When Charles finally got his chance to play for a few services he moved to Queens to attend Holy Unity Baptist Church. A few years went by before Charles got a chance to play the drums there but when he did he became the drummer for the children's choir.
During his early teen years he moved from the children's choir to the primary drummer for the Sunday morning service. At the age of 16, Charles began to play at other churches on Sunday mornings. During this time he also began to learn the piano and he played as a keyboardist for some churches as well.
Aside from church, Charles has also played with his high school Jazz band and Concert band at many venues including Columbia University and the National Annnual Korean Heritage Essay Contest Awards Ceremony. Upon graduating high school he received many awards from his music department. He also plays for his own personal band, In Pure Thought. They played many charity shows including HIV/AIDS Awareness Conferences and the Shortstack Fashion Show. His band is currently looking to record thier first album.
Charles currently plays at Living Faith Ministries and Family and Friends Ministries. Charles honestly owes it all to God for giving him talent to begin with and he thanks his family, friends, and his mentor, Camielle Gainer, for teaching him that there is more to his craft than just playing. She also taught him how to read music. Charles is very excited to be with the Soultone family!
