Chad Monk

Chad Monk

Chad started playing drums at age 5. He is self-taught and mostly plays by ear but he can also read music. Also he learned a lot by watching his older brother, Duane play. By age 11 he started listening to Rock bands and had learned tunes like YYZ and Tom Sawyer. By age 13 he was playing in bands with friends and also started being part of writing original music. His teenage years consisted of a mix of original and cover bands. Also at around age 13 he was concentrating on double bass exercises and sharpened his chops on early Heavy Metal like Dio, Judas Priest and Van Halen. Then getting more complex by studying note for note, beat for beat Drum Monsters like Charlie Benante, Lars Ulrich, Mikkey Dee, Kirk Arrington and Ray Hartmann. By age 16, Chad was playing in local bars. Of course, at a young age, Chad has had the dream of playing music for a living, recording albums and touring. After playing in several Metal bands around and after high school, Chad was given the opportunity to play in a Blues band which he says opened his musical mind and learned from other styles and genres. Chad has stated that even though Heavy Metal is his preferred genre to listen to and play, you can still learn from other styles. That is what he attributes to making himself an all around better drummer and musician and also along with every band and musician he has had the privilege to play with. He says that drums are like all other instruments in the fact that you are always learning and it's impossible to master in one lifetime. Chad has played Rock, Blues, Jazz, Country, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Chad is also a lyricist having written lyrics for many originals.
