Anthony "Tonka" Green

Anthony Green started playing drums at the age of four years old. He grew up playing at his local church in Athens GA, where he would play almost every Sunday. As he got older, he decided he wanted to master the gift he was given, so he began taking drum lessons from a local music store. Anthony learned how to read, and play many styles and genres of music. “My dad always told me growing up if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right!” Anthony continued to take drum lessons for a few years. When Anthony was eight years old, he met the man who would influence him more than any other; His name was Joe Ellison, and he was the drummer for several groups around Athens. One of the groups was Pam Blanchard and the sunny side up band. “I remember when I met Joe, he was playing with Pam at the Georgia square mall in Athens. I went up to him and told him I was a drummer, and he let me sit in on a few songs. I thought that was the greatest thing ever.” Anthony continued to sit in with Joe for a number of years, and also play alongside Joe in musical theater performances. When Anthony got into high school, he played on the drum line, and was the jazz band and musical theater drummer all four years of school. The band director, Mark Provost, always believed in Anthony, and put a lot of faith and responsibility on him. “I owe it all to Joe! He taught me almost everything I know, and I couldn’t have asked for a better friend and mentor.” Anthony is currently playing with Full Moon Studios in Watkinsville GA (where Joe Ellison plays also), and several theater groups around Athens, including Oconee County High School’s theater group, which is under the musical direction of his good friend Mark Provost. Anthony is also playing drums for the ska/reggae band LOWDIVE, hip hop extraordinaire ELITE THE SHOWSTOPPA, and a hip hop funky soul band that rocks SHOWTIME!
