Alex Puente

Alex “Toonz” Puente was born on December 17, 1990 in Torrance, California, where there he started playing on pots and pans with spoons in his hands. Alex taught himself the pulse to music. It all started when he was a youngster, listening to his parents Tex Mex, classic rock, and heavy metal vinyls. As he began to focus more in the different genres of music, his uncles from his mothers side introduced him to the sound of Soul, Funk and Hip-Hop. Artists such as Rage Against the Machine, Sade, Michael Jackson, Jamiroquai, Earth Wind and Fire, Naughty by Nature, Eric B And Rakim, Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G, gave “Toonz” the feel of the backbeat.

As Alex went on through his years in high school, he learned how to read and write musical notes, which later played a big role in his future. In high school Alex was introduced to Jazz, Samba, Bossa Nova, and Swing. If you put all of his influential genres together you get an all around musician that has the groove for music in general. To support that, Alex has received 4 Awards from Collegiate and High School Jazz Festivals and has also received 3 awards from Sultana High School for Marching Band.

Alex Puente has played with great artists and jazz bands such as Butter (http://www.myspace.com/eatmybutter), Madam (http://www.myspace.com/madam05), and Barstow College Jazz Ambassadors. He is currently recording with Groove Daddy (http://www.myspace.com/1groovedaddy) in the studio and is collaborating with other artists to start his studio drumming career. In addition, Toonz is working on a project with Ese Daz from Spanish F.L.Y. (http://www.myspace.com/esedaz), where they are working together to revolutionize the Latin Hip Hop industry.
